Thank our legislators

This legislative session, our DFL legislators fought hard for the safety and dignity of all Minnesotans — and they need to hear from us!

Gun violence prevention

Following the murder of former House Speaker Melissa Hortman and her husband, the shooting of Sen. Mark Hoffman and his wife, and the killing of two children at Annunciation Catholic School in Minneapolis, the Minnesota Senate passed an omnibus gun safety package, SF 4067, by a vote of 34-33. Almost 600 people have died due to gun violence in Minnesota in 2025 and into 2026.

The bill would have banned assault weapons and high-capacity magazines, prohibited ghost guns, reinstated the ban on binary triggers, and invested in school safety and violence prevention.

House DFL members staged a sit-in during the final weekend of session demanding a floor vote — but Republican Speaker Lisa Demuth, who is running for governor this year, adjourned without allowing one.

ICE accountability

In response to Operation Metro Surge, the Senate also passed SF 3699, the ICE Accountability and Justice Bill, 34-33 along party lines.

The bill would have restricted ICE access to schools, hospitals, and courts, required BCA involvement in federal use-of-force investigations, and given Minnesotans the right to sue federal agents for constitutional violations.

It never got a House vote.

Both bills died because of the tied House — not because our legislators failed. A DFL trifecta in 2027 changes everything.

Sample Message

I am [NAME] and I'm a constituent from [CITY/NEIGHBORHOOD]. I'm calling to thank [LEGISLATOR NAME] for their votes and sit-in this session on gun safety (SF 4067) and ICE accountability (SF 3699). It took courage to fight for these bills, and I'm grateful.

I know the tied House blocked both from becoming law — but I hope they know we aren't giving up. Indivisible Twin Cities is working to win a DFL trifecta in 2026 so these fights can become wins next session. Please keep fighting. We have your back."

If you have a personal connection to either issue — kids in school, someone affected by Operation Metro Surge, fear of gun violence — add a statement about it. Personal stories are the most powerful thing a constituent can share. Even one sentence can make a difference.
