Say No to the Slush Fund

Between 2018 and 2020, Trump’s tax information was leaked to The New York Times.  The Times, citing the returns, reported in 2020 that Trump, a billionaire, had paid little or no federal income taxes over 15 years.  In January, Trump and his two eldest sons sued the IRS and Department of the Treasury (which he is in charge of) for $10 billion, accusing the agencies of failing to prevent the leak of his tax information.

On Monday, 18 May, the Justice Department announced the suit was settled and the government had agreed to create an almost $1.8 billion fund called the Anti-Weaponization Fund to compensate people who believe the government unfairly investigated them.  And on Tuesday, they announced an addendum ending any possible audits by the IRS against Trump, his family, and their trusts, companies or subsidiaries.

Even Republicans are calling this “utterly stupid, morally wrong,” even causing them to put off any work on the reconciliation bill until their concerns are resolved.  Both Democrats and Republicans have drafted legislation to put a halt to this blatant corruption, including:

·      The Stop Letting United States Heads Funnel Unauthorized Nontransparent Dollars Act of 2026, or SLUSH FUND Act, introduced by Senators Ron Wyden (D- OR) and Chuck Schumer (D-NY), would impose a 100 percent excise tax on any settlement payment received from this slush fund.

·      The Bipartisan Transparency for American Taxpayers Act, introduced by Congressmen Brian Fitzpatrick (R -PA) and Congressman Tom Suozzi (D-NY), would prohibit federal funds from being used to pay any claims submitted to the Anti-Weaponization Fund.

·      The No Taxpayer-Funded Settlement Slush Funds Act of 2026, introduced by Representative Jamie Raskin (D-MD), would prohibit the use of federal funds to create or finance the slush fund and imposes sweeping new restrictions to prevent taxpayer dollars from being steered to January 6 rioters, MAGA sycophants, senior government officials, and members of the President or Vice President’s family.

Call to Action (what specific action are we taking):

We are calling our representatives and Senators Klobuchar and Smith to fight against this slush fund and to support legislation designed to halt it, as well as fighting against giving Trump a Get Out of Jail free card on his taxes.

I am a constituent from (your address) [Optional: and a member of Indivisible Twin Cities].  Please stand up and fight against Trump’s corrupt slush fund which would steer almost $2 billion toward people who attacked our U. S. Capitol, wounded and killed Capitol police, and threatened to hang the Vice President, all while attempting a coup of the U. S. government.  Please support any or all of the proposed legislation introduced in both the House and the Senate to halt this corruption.  Also, please fight against the corrupt deal to prevent the IRS from auditing his and his family’s tax returns.
