Sometimes the easiest thing to do is to simply show up. Be it a rally, a speaker event, writing postcards to our reps and more, we organize informative, fun and easy ways to make our voices heard. Attend an event and get to know your neighbors.

You can be as active as your own time permits. Whether it’s helping to organize speaker events, designing banners for a rally, researching upcoming legislation, writing letters to the editor and more, every volunteer effort can make a difference in our community.

Downstream and In Danger: How You Can Act Now to Defend Minnesota’s Watersheds from Toxic Sulfide Ore Mining

Toxic sulfide ore mines are now proposed for the Mississippi River and St. Croix River watersheds. This summer, your action is critical for the future of our water, wild rice, and health. Get caught up and ready to act! Right now, a critical comment period is open to decide the scope of environmental study for the proposed Talon Metals/Rio Tinto sulfide ore mine in Aitkin County. Our comments to the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources are needed by September 14!
WaterLegacy Executive Director and Counsel Paula Maccabee will bring us up-to-date on the history of sulfide mine proposals in Minnesota, how industry pressure on regulators and legislators shapes the laws and permitting process, and what we can do right now to advocate and defend the Mississippi River and St. Croix River watersheds from toxic sulfide ore mining pollution.

Rebecca and I, as co-leaders of ITC, would like to thank each and every one of our amazing, dedicated volunteers and leaders. Those who have been with us since the beginning offer experience and institutional knowledge that keeps the organization focused on why we do this work in the first place. Those who have joined us over the past year have brought new ideas, new experiences and new voices to our cause and have added a vibrancy that inspires us all.
Let's be honest, 2025 was a new kind of awful. 2026 will not be easy. We will stay the course and keep fighting for the future and common good of all of us.
