Volunteers will have a virtual training session 1-2 days before the event. Marshals will have required online or in-person training. We encourage you to attend, as trainings will not be recorded.

Appleton Flock Camera Puts All of Our Rights at Risk

CoreCivic, the private prison firm operating the Prairie Detention Facility in Appleton under contract with DHS and ICE, installed two Flock cameras on a public street outside the facility. Only afterward did they seek to obtain a permit from the Appleton City Council. The cameras capture every passing license plate, and because CoreCivic is a private company, it alone would decide how that data is collected, stored, used, and shared, with no public oversight or accountability. Approving the permits would give CoreCivic explicit permission to build and share a database tracking the movements and habits of Appleton residents, workers, and visitors.

If approved by the Appleton City Council, CoreCivic's Flock cameras would intrude on the privacy of everyone travelling on Minnesota State Highway 119.

We are calling on Appleton City Council to deny permits for CoreCivic's Flock systems, and to reject CoreCivic's use of Flock cameras to collect data on anyone passing by the facility on a state highway.
