She is now leading the Step Up for Democracy Campaign with a coalition of organizations to call on corporations to Step Up for Democracy and oppose the administration's attempts to dismantle it

DeWayne Davis is the Political Director of SEIU Healthcare Minnesota and Iowa. Davis brings extensive federal policy experience, having served on the staffs of U.S. Representatives Peter Visclosky, Chet Edwards, and Steny Hoyer. As Domestic Policy Advisor for The Episcopal Church, he advocated before Congress and the White House.
For more than 13 years, Davis has helped lead faith communities and organize for justice in Minnesota, serving as Lead Minister of Plymouth Congregational Church, Senior Pastor of All God’s Children Metropolitan Community Church, and Chaplain of the Minnesota State Senate. He was also a labor-endorsed candidate for mayor of Minneapolis in 2025.

Gather for the rally at The Commons (425 Portland Ave S, Minneapolis 55415).There will not be a march, and, since it's a Saturday, there will be no polls open for voting.

Safety of all our rally participants and surrounding community are front of mind. While we can't share all details (for security reasons), we can share that we have many experienced and trained marshals trained in de-escalation on site, and an extensive safety plan in place.
The organizers of this event are committed to peaceful and non-violent action, no civil disobedience, and to the promise of freedom of speech and freedom of assembly that is written into the Constitution. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values and to act lawfully at these events. Weapons of any kind, including those legally permitted, should not be brought to events.
Should you encounter any individual(s) looking to stir things up or act violently, we ask that you not engage and that you contact the nearest marshal.
A note on signs: While we encourage signs and banners, for the safety of this event, we ask that you do not bring signs mounted on sticks or any object that could be interpreted or used as a weapon.WHAT TO BRING/WHAT NOT TO BRING
Here are some handy tips for attending the event

Come rain or shine, the event will go on. Minnesota weather means conditions can change quickly. So dress in layers and wear comfy shoes you can stand in for up to three hours.

Make it easy on yourself, and leave large bags at home if possible.
Bring a fully-charged phone.
Bring your I.D. and one credit/debit card. Keep it in a secure pocket.
Bring a water bottle and/or light snack. (though food trucks will be on site and will appreciate your business!)

Make your own sign. Great messaging ideas here
Do not put your signs on a stick (for safety concerns).
Do Not Bring Chalk or Stickers: please don’t bring chalk or any other writing or marking material to write on the sidewalk or other surface. Our volunteers are responsible for removing all markings at the end of the event, and washing away markings is a hard task that is easily avoided.

Accessibility is a key to ensuring all community members are able to participate in this event. Here are a couple key things to know:
There will be some accessible seating available at the rally in front of the stage.
American Sign Language interpretation will be provided at the event during the program. The best visibility to the ASL interpreters will be from the accessible seating area.
We will have ADA accessible port-a-potties at The Commons.

Yes! There will be porta-potties (including ADA accessible) available around both sides of the park at the No Kings Vote Early Rally!

Pack It In; Pack It Out
To show our commitment to the environment, we are striving for a zero-waste event. If you bring it, please remove it and recycle/compost. A limited number of garbage and recycling receptacles will be available. -
To make this a safe event for all participants and for your pet’s safety, please leave pets at home. We love pets but with big crowds, noise and Minnesota weather, this may be a challenging environment for them and not all cultures have the same comfort level with animals. Of course, service animals are welcome.

Eastbound I-394 weekend closure Oct. 16-19
Beginning at 10 p.m. Fri, Oct. 16, eastbound I-394 between I-94 and downtown Minneapolis will be closed through 5 a.m. Mon, Oct. 19. During the closure, the exit ramps on 3rd Ave., 4th St., North 6th St. and North 12th St. will be closed. Drivers should plan ahead. Stay tuned for additional information in next week’s update.

People in the Twin Cities and the state of Minnesota are still feeling the effects of Operation Metro Surge and we showed the world that we reject the idea that power belongs to kings, billionaires, or politicians who believe they are above the people and the law.
Now, we are taking the next step, turning people power into voter power. Unlike previous No Kings actions, No Kings: Vote Early, is not purely a protest. Instead, on October 17th, it's a day of nonpartisan voter participation: we are bringing Minnesotans together for music, speakers, family fun and voting information sharing. We will encourage everyone to make a plan to vote early and ensure every eligible voter understands their options for how to vote and has the opportunity to make their voice heard.
