Vote no on Increased ICE funding

Vote No on Increased ICE Funding

The Senate is expected to vote this week on Full-year funding for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), including ICE. It is part of a larger budget bill that will keep a number of federal departments open and operating (is included in H.R. 7148, the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2026.), which is expected to be voted on in the Senate this week.

We’ve been insisting that any bill that funds DHS must not include additional funding for ICE, and must include meaningful limits on ICE.  This bill does not do that.  It includes an additional $10 billion for ICE (over and above the $75 billion appropriated last year under the Big Ugly Bill), and only includes some weak restrictions: funding for body cams, a requirement for de-escalation training, and some limits on reprogramming of funds.

With yet another Minnesotan murdered by ICE while legally observing their activities, we need to keep the government shut down as long as necessary to force ICE’s withdrawal from Minnesota.  Not only do we need to stop the funding for ICE in this bill, we  can no longer expect that enacting meaningful constraints on ICE are possible or that the federal government would abide by any laws to constrain them.

Seven House Democrats voted for the bill, and we cannot be certain that Senate Democrats will hold the line and prevent passage of the bill, which requires 60 votes to pass.

Call to Action (what specific action are we taking):

We are calling our Senators Klobuchar and Smith to vote “No” on this bill, irrespective of the minor constraints on ICE in the bill,, and to exhort their Senate colleagues to join them in putting a stop to this lawlessness and violence..
