Thank children’s Minnesota

On April 6, Children’s Minnesota announced that it has resumed all services in its Gender Health program.

Children’s Minnesota is a pediatric health system that includes children’s hospitals in Saint Paul and Minneapolis, nine primary care clinics, specialty and rehab clinics and the state’s only Level One Trauma Center exclusively for children.

In February Children’s Minnesota had announced a pause on its Gender Health Program for Children, which provides medications and hormone treatments.  Earlier in the year, Trump had signed an executive order restricting access to gender affirming health care for people under the age of 19 and later also announced that it would withdraw all federal funding from any hospitals that offer these treatments. Minnesota was one of 21 states that secured a federal court ruling blocking the Trump administration from pressuring health care providers to end care for children with gender dysphoria.

Twenty seven states have enacted laws restricting access to gender affirming care for youth.  The Minnesota Legislature, however, passed a law in 2023 to protect the the rights of people of all ages to access gender affirming health care services.

Attention:  Emily Chapman, M.D., President, and members of the board:

Thank you for restoring gender affirming care to young people.  Medical science, not political bullying, should determine our health care choices.

Add a sentence or two about how this affects you or why you support the decision to resume care.
