Request the DNR Cancel Mining Lease in the Boundary Waters

HJR140 allows the mining of federal lands in the BWCA, However, Twin Metals has failed to meet 2 requirements of its lease: they must be actively engaged in mining, and they must have paid Minnesota at least $100,000 in royalty payments during a single calendar year. These failures give the MN DNR legal authority to cancel their mining lease. This move stops Twin Metals mining on the state Land under contract and establishes a precedent for future mining contract cancellations.

Ask Governor Walz to direct the DNR to exercise its legal authority and cancel Twin Metals’ state mineral lease.

• Twin Metals has had 35 years and has failed to meet lease requirements

• DNR now has both the authority and fiduciary duty to cancel this lease

• The Boundary Waters is irreplaceable. Minnesota must stand up against a relentless federal assault on our clean water
