Tell Target: Keep ICE Out of Our Communities
What’s Happening
On December 2, ICE began carrying out coordinated “strike raids” in Minneapolis that specifically target Somali community members. These raids happened on the same day the President publicly disparaged Somalis everywhere, sending a chilling message to Somali families in Minnesota and across the country.
During the raids, ICE agents posed as rideshare drivers, detained a Somali father, and left his two young children alone in a car in freezing weather. Meanwhile, ICE agents parked and staged operations out of the Target parking lot at Lake Street & Hiawatha, as documented by constitutional observers.
Somali families are a deeply rooted part of Minnesota’s communities — raising kids, working essential jobs, running businesses, and contributing to the cultural and economic life of our state. These raids put Somali families in danger and spread fear across entire neighborhoods.
Because Target serves and profits from Somali customers and workers every day, it must answer why ICE was allowed to use its property on December 2 and commit to ensuring its lots are never again used to harm families.
Target is a major corporation that depends on our communities. If ICE is using their property to launch raids, Target must answer for it — and take steps to ensure their lots are never again used to separate families.
